This breed is medium-sized retriever that is known for both the beautiful colour of its coat and its affectionate and gentle personality, which has made it one of the most popular pet breeds in the world. First bred in Scotland in the nineteenth century, the Golden Retriever resulted from the cross-breeding of flat-coated retrievers with Water Spaniels and Bloodhounds.
While it is very popular as a companion dog and pet, the Golden Retriever is still used as a working gun dog, retrieving waterfowl for hunters. Its famous double coat, with a dense undercoat and long outer coat, provides excellent weather resistance for this hardy breed.
